At
last week’s Committee of the Whole meeting of the
Lincoln City Council, Angela Stoltzenburg of the
Healthy Communities Partnership spoke about a new
project her agency is hoping to implement. Working
with the Logan County Alliance and the city of
Lincoln, HCP wants to put up signage around town
that will encourage people to take a short walk
around town. The signs would point out various
landmarks and give an estimated time it would take
to walk to see it. Stoltzenburg brought a "draft"
sign that would be placed uptown pointing toward the
Constellation sculpture on Sangamon Street with a
note that it would take only 8 minutes to walk to
the site. The signs will not only encourage walking
as a means of exercise, but would also point out
some of the interesting aspects of the city to
visitors.
