A
big day for Route 66 in Lincoln is coming. The
long-hoped for, hard-worked at Mill on Route 66
will have its Grand Opening on April 29th. A
parade and other activities are being planned
for the historic Route 66 in Lincoln that day as
well. It was former Logan County Tourism
Director Geoff Ladd, now with Illinois Route 66,
who recognized the historic building’s value as
a tourism site, especially linked with several
others in the area. Ladd stepped up just in the
nick of time as the city was to vote on the
condemned property’s destruction. The property
had become a health and safety hazard blighted
by age, vandalism and vermin damages. Various
Route 66 Associations and individuals joined
Ladd and got behind the project.
