On Tuesday, September 11th, a special ceremony was held at Copper Creek Cottage Memory Care in Lincoln. The ceremony included a remembrance of September 11, 2001 and the terrorist attack on our country and the subsequent loss of lives including the lives of many first responders in New York as the twin towers of the World Trade Center crumbled to the ground. The day was also an opportunity to dedicate a new flagpole at the facility and hold a special flag raising ceremony.
 

Copper Creek Administrator Deb Maaks began the day by welcoming all guests, staff and residents of Copper Creek. She also acknowledged all the first responders who are residents and staff at Copper Creek. Many of those were veterans while some of the current staff members are involved with local fire, rescue, and EMT services. That group was given a special front row seat to the program.

 

Pastor Dan McQuality of Grace Lutheran Church offered a word of pray then the American Legion Color Guard did the honors of hoisting the flag for the first time.

 

Logan County Veteran’s Assistance Commission Director Dan Benedict led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and Joyce Pinney sang the National Anthem. C. Wayne Schrader and Sheralyn Bolton then led the audience in the singing of God Bless America. Closing prayer was then offered by McQuality.

 

Maaks offered closing remarks, then invited everyone to come inside at Copper Creek for a time of visiting and refreshments.

After the ceremony, Maaks commented that from her first day on the job at Copper Creek it had bothered her that there was no American flag on the grounds. Then Logan County VAC assisted in getting the pole put up at the front entrance of the building. Maaks said it was the perfect addition to the facility.
