At
the Monday evening voting session of the Lincoln City Council
aldermen approved a resolution declaring Thursday, March 21st as
World Downs Syndrome Awareness Day in Lincoln. Lincoln’s resolution
will be placed on file with Downs Syndrome International in the
United Kingdom.
Alex Williams made the request on behalf of her son Harrison and all
other children born with Downs. She and her husband Jason had known
before Harrison was born that he would have Downs. As a mother,
Williams felt it was her job to speak out and be a voice and an
advocate for her son until he is old enough to speak for himself.
Approximately 6,000 babies are born yearly with Downs. Everyone is
asked to wear blue to signify their support for these children on
Thursday.
Harrison poses with Mayor Seth Goodman after the resolution passed.
