Faithful volunteers show up each year to assist in this procedure and make sure everything is done in a smooth and safe fashion. The Rural Fire Department is advised of the burn offs and most always send a truck to be on standby, which is greatly appreciates. Safety is a high priority for all.

A total of seven sections are designated as CRPs and burns are rotated on a schedule of either three or four sections every other year. There are guidelines for those participating in the CRP program, which is carefully monitored by the Lincoln USDA and the park abides by all guidelines as required.

Smoke rolls

Flames bob and weave and oft times try to reach for the sky.

As through a looking glass, flames can still be seen through heavy smoke and a thicket of briars.
