Friday
evening's activities downtown in Lincoln included a
ribbon cutting for a new Monarch Flyway Garden at the
Route 66 Welcome Garden. The welcome garden is located
at the corner of Pekin and Kickapoo Streets, just one
block north of the Logan County Courthouse Square.
The garden is a Logan County Tourism Bureau project. The
LCTB was approached early this year with a proposal from
the Illinois Route 66 Monarch Flyway project and the
Route 66 Scenic Byway to partner in creating garden
plots that will attract the Monarch Butterfly and other
pollinator insects.
On Friday evening, LCTB director Alice Roate with help
from Tourism Assistant Lexie Groves and volunteer Joan
Moody snipped the ribbon on the new garden.
