Pierce King finished in 16th place on Saturday in the IESA State Cross Country finals at Parkside Junior High in Normal.  The finish placed him on the winners podium with a medal draped around his neck. King ran a PR of 11:18.1 and he was the only runner on the WLB team to bring home a piece of hardware Saturday, as just the top 25 individuals earn medals.

King is a seventh grader at Carroll Catholic and he is the son of Kim (the coach) and Jeff King of Lincoln.

Preston Short and Henry Stoltzenburg also represented WLB at State and they each had respectable finishes among the pack of 233 runners in the boys 2A race. Short, an eighth grader, finished in 55th place with a time of 11:59.2 and Stoltzenburg, a seventh grader, finished in 58th place with a time of 12:00.5.

In the girls 2A race, Taylor Short just missed earning a medal with a time of 12:47.9. Short finished in 27th place. There were 237 runners in the girls 2A race. Short is a sixth grader at WLB and this was her second year competing at State. No doubt her future on the course is very bright.

Congratulations to these runners on their success at the State XC meet!
