On
Wednesday morning, as part of a traditional Flag Day
retirement ceremony, a tattered flag representing dozens
of flags collected over the past year was presented to
the American Legion Post 263 Commander Gene Hickey for
final inspection. The ceremony includes three individual
inspections of a flag to be retired. When all three
inspections determine that the flag is worn and tattered
and should no longer be publicly displayed, it is then
“reverberantly retired” by burning.
