Master Naturalist volunteers Pam Moriearty and Mark Tebrugge stand by the sign pointing to the bird watching station at Kickapoo Creek Park. When volunteer birdwatchers are on hand on Saturday mornings in April and May to help with identification, the “Birdwatcher on Duty” section will be added to the sign.

Mt. Pulaski Zion Lutheran School Kindergarten teacher Nastassja Fox is in the running for the Teach for America Teacher of the Year award. If chosen as the winner Simmons will appear in Reader’s Digest magazine, win a trip to Hawaii and a $25,000 cash prize.

The contest is also a fundraiser for Teach for America with a single vote being free and additional votes available for a donation.
