National Railsplitting Festival an event that draws families
On a bright and sunny Sunday afternoon, many people came out to the 46th Annual Abraham Lincoln National
Railsplitting Festival for events that included the National Railsplitting Contest, Jr. Railsplitting Contest, trick riding on
horses, and a re-christening of the town of Lincoln.
Both on Saturday and on Sunday, people of all ages had a chance to see examples of what life was like in the early days of
Lincoln around the area where town namesake Abraham Lincoln practiced law.
Amid Baribay, Emmanuel Goeh and Anthony Campbell from Rock Island
spent time between soccer games at a local tournament participating in the Jr.
railsplitting contest. The trio received first, second and third place. Local boys
Jackson Mathon and Tristan Maxheimer also joined in the fun, placing fourth and
fifth. The boys were surprised at how heavy the axes and sledgehammers were.
While waiting for the contest
to begin, Hadley Williams of
Missouri tried her hand at rolling
a log.
