Cakes, cakes, cakes; Cake Classic
Auction supports 4-H programs
One version of a favorite nursery rhyme was perfect for Sunday
afternoon as the traditional 4-H Cake Classic took place on the Lincoln
Stage under the direction of Megan Opperman and Brenda Silano:
Patty cake, patty cake, baker’s man.
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Roll it up, roll it up;
And throw it in a pan!
Patty cake, patty cake, baker’s man.
There were no men in the competition this year, but the eight ladies
eligible for the Cake Classic didn’t seem to mind. They had already
won blue ribbons at the Logan County Fair in one of the eight cake
classes described in the Fair Catalog. Before a live audience the blue
ribbon winners baked their cakes, had them judged, and then watched
while they were auctioned off to the highest bidder.
