Live auction
brings in dollars
for this year’s
fundraising effort
By Nila Smith
This year the annual Relay for Life auction
was held at 7 p.m.
The auction items this year included a wide
variety of items donated by various businesses
and individuals. Among the donations were
live plants, home
and garden décor,
fun in the sun
and tailgate party
supplies, and
several handmade
items including
pillows and
blankets made
with Relay for Life
T-shirts from past
years.
Mike Maske of
Mount Pulaski
was the scheduled
auctioneer for this
year, but a last-
minute change
brought Dan Naughton of Naughton Auction
Services of Atlanta to the stage instead.
Before the auction began, Naughton explained
that on Friday he got a call from his friend
and fellow auctioneer Mike Maske, asking
Naughton to fill in on Saturday. Maske’s
mother is ill, and he felt he needed to be close
to her.
Naughton said he was happy to fill in, not
just to help his friend Maske, but to also be of
service to the Relay for Life of Logan County.
Along with Naughton, the Cooley family,
perhaps better known in Logan County as
the C & C Fudge people, assisted with the
auction.
