2017 RELAY FOR LIFE MAGAZINE LINCOLN DAILY NEWS JUNE 21, 2017 Page 55

2017 Logan County Relay for

Life Luminary Dedications

L

uminaria dedications are made in honor

of, memory of, and in support of those

who have battled cancer, their caretakers and

others.

Traditional luminaria are paper lanterns with

candle votives set outside after dark.

For the Relay, white paper bags are used and

each has a single name handwritten on it. The

bags line the walking track. Nearing the close

of the Relay, glow sticks are set in each bag

and the name stands out.

During this reverent portion of the event, Hush

Angels, precious young girls and boys in long

fluttery robes with wings and sparkles, carry

‘Silence’ signs as a reminder.

This year there were 511 luminaria honorees

and it took 55 minutes as each name was read

aloud.
