Response to request for video removal

7-12-01

To the editor:

I am writing in response to Mr. Bova’s request to the city council regarding the removal of what he deems explicit material in video stores.

I have seen these videos he objects to on the video store shelves, and I must admit that I have seen worse scenes on our public streets.

While I personally do not rent these types of videos, I understand that some adults do. I also feel that is their right under the constitution to do so, as it is a form of expression.

Removing these videos would be a violation of free speech and freedom of expression.

While I appreciate seeing a concerned citizen address the council, I feel there are much more important issues our city government needs to address at this time.

Let’s support the new business in town

7-9-01

To the editor:

I stopped by and visited the new store on Fifth Street named "Country Pantry." It is owned by some very nice people named Henderson.

I was very impressed. It is very clean and orderly. It also had some very nice products.

I hope Lincoln will support this new business venture.

Lincoln statue makes the news overseas

7-5-01

To the editor:

I am currently living in Germany. I wanted to let all Lincolnites know that on Armed Forces Radio there was a news spot regarding the Abe Lincoln statue. Lincoln has made the world news!

Thanks for the fireworks display

That was the best fireworks that I have seen for a long time. My thanks to all involved in getting all that display together and giving us the best entertainment.
