Charles Joseph Hubbard

Charles Joseph "Joe" Hubbard, 84, of Mason City died at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002 at Havana Health Care.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City, with the Rev. Dustin Fulton officiating.

Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial, with graveside military rites, will be in Mason City Cemetery.

Hubbard was a retired farmer.

He was a veteran and had been a cook in the Navy.

He was born Jan. 25, 1918, at Mason City to Charles and Wincie White Hubbard. He married Wilma Ruth Blome in Mason City on Jan. 3, 1948. She died April 1, 1971.

Surviving are one son, Gary (and wife Carol) Hubbard of Springfield; one daughter, Susie (and Grouch) Limback of Mason City; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters.

He was a member of the VFW, Optimist Club and United Methodist Church, all in Mason City.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.


Florine Elliott

Florine O. Elliott, 89, of rural Armington died at 9:37 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Armington Christian Church.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Vernon L. Oakley officiating.

Burial will be in Hieronymus Cemetery, rural Armington.

Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta, is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Elliott taught 40 years in Illinois schools and retired in 1977.

She was born Aug. 1, 1912, at Armington to Clinton and Bessie Bell Elliott.

Surviving are one sister, Maxine (and husband Harry) Rogers of Armington; two nephews, Dennis Lynn Rogers of Melbourne, Fla., and Elliott Duane Rogers of Armington; seven great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-niece.

She was preceded in death by one niece, Bonita Harkrider.

She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Illinois State University in Normal.

She taught at White Hall, Atlanta, Pleasant Hill, East Peoria, Rose Hill, Morton, the Gaines school, Minier, a Brockton school, Waynesville Grade School, Hittle Township High School, Armington, Hopedale High School and Olympia High School, rural Stanford.

She was a 74-year member of the Armington Christian Church and a lifelong Sunday School teacher. She also held membership in the Armington Woman’s Club, Illinois Business Teachers Association and Illinois Retired Teachers Association and was an honorary member of Delta Pi Epsilon.

She and a lifelong friend, Winona Wyatt (deceased), traveled extensively throughout the world. They visited 49 of the 50 states, the Holy Land, Canada, Europe, the Soviet Union, Mexico and Japan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Armington Christian Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Goldie Reed

Goldie Olive Reed, 92, of Lincoln died at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.

Mrs. Reed was cremated.

There will be no service or visitation.

Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Reed retired from the Lincoln Developmental Center Dietary Department after 48 years of service.

She was born April 19, 1909, in Sullivan.

Surviving are one son, Clifford (and wife Phyllis) Reed of Lincoln; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers. She was the last of her immediate family.
