Thelma Read

Thelma Read, 92, of LeRoy, formerly of Lincoln, died at 12:10 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2002, at LeRoy Manor.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

There is no visitation.

Mrs. Read was a teacher.

She was born Aug. 12, 1909, in Emden to Noah and Clara Bell McNeal Garver. She married Emmett Read on Dec. 27, 1932, in Crawfordsville, Ind. He died March 21, 1999.

Surviving are three sons, Dohn Read of Normal, Hal Read of Elkhart and Stanley Read of Apache Junction, Ariz.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Maurine Baldwin of Lincoln.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

She graduated from Lincoln College and taught at Honey Hook School in the Broadwell area.

She was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lincoln and the Missionary Society of the church. She taught Sunday School for many years.

Memorials may be made to her church.

Sarah Smallwood

Sarah Margaret Smallwood, 86, of Emden died at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Hopedale Hospital.

Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Emden.

Miss Smallwood was a receptionist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

She was born Sept. 16, 1915, in Emden to Bert C. and Zora A. Gemberling Smallwood.

Surviving are one sister, Edith Mitchell of Emden, and two nephews, Lloyd Mitchell of Emden and Kenneth Mitchell of Middletown, Calif.

She was a member of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.
