Edward Dowling

Edward J. Dowling, 85, of Lincoln, formerly of Wheaton, died Monday (May 12, 2003) at 5:15 p.m. at St. Clara's Manor in Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Ivin's Funeral Home, 80 E. Burlington St., Riverside.

His funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Leonard's Catholic Church, 33rd and Clarence in Berwyn. Father Bill Curren will officiate.

Burial will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.

Mr. Dowling was a retired deputy director for the General Services Administration in Chicago and Washington, D.C.

He was born April 6, 1918, in Chicago to Andrew E. and Ellen Frainey Dowling. He married Mary Jane Simmons on May 21, 1949, in Chicago. She died April 21, 1955.

Survivors are one son, Edward J. (and Marcia) Dowling of Lincoln; one daughter, Deborah (and Albert) Hlavacek of Phoenix, Ariz.; four granddaughters, Jennifer (and Greg) Widmer of Montgomery, Julie and Kelly Dowling of Lincoln, and Samantha Reed of Chicago; two grandsons, Christopher and Patrick Reed of Phoenix, Ariz.; and one brother, John (and Ruth) Dowling of Huntley.

He was also preceded in death by one sister and one child.

He was a member of Holy Family Church in Lincoln.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago.
