Fast moving storm drops funnel clouds over northern Logan County

[MAY 31, 2003]  Scattered areas of northern Logan County were struck by tornadoes mid-evening Friday. At 8:10 p.m. the National Weather Service in Lincoln issued the first tornado/storm warning.  Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm with strong rotation over San Jose.

The storm tracked from west to east. Numerous sightings of funnel clouds were reported through out northern Logan County beginning with I-155 and exit 136 near the county line, crossing I-55 near the truck stop west of Lincoln, at I-55 exit east of Lincoln traveling into DeWitt County. 

 Damages were reported in San Jose, rural Atlanta, Lawndale, Beason moving into DeWitt striking Hallsville.  Several homes and businesses had severe damages, a barn was destroyed near Lawndale.

Some areas experienced power outages. A number of mainline poles that transport power from Lincoln substations were downed.  AmerenCilco was working to restore power to the affected areas.

Sen. Bill Brady joins advisory board

[MAY 31, 2003]  Bill Brady, state senator from the 44th District, has joined the Legislative Advisory Board of the Heartland Institute, a national nonprofit think tank headquartered in Chicago.

Sen. Brady will advise Heartland on articles and documents to include in PolicyBot, an Internet database of over 15,000 documents from more than 300 think tanks and publishers. PolicyBot is free for elected officials and journalists at www.heartland.org.

Members of the Heartland Legislative Advisory Board also submit essays and news reports for Heartland publications for elected officials, meet with their counterparts from other states at special adviser events, and receive priority treatment for their research requests.

"I'm pleased to represent the concerns of my constituents by participating in this forum," Sen. Brady said.

The Heartland Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy research group. The institute has been in existence for 19 years and publishes Environment & Climate News, Health Care News, and School Reform News, as well as The Heartlander, Intellectual Ammunition and Lawsuit Abuse Fortnightly.
