[APRIL 20, 2004]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays (except holidays) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Extension to sponsor bingo

The Logan County Extension Unit will sponsor the bingo games that begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the senior center. Nutritious prizes! Come join the fun and bring a friend!

Alzheimer support group to meet

The Alzheimer support group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday at the senior center. No reservation is necessary. The group provides support and information for caregivers and extended family. The meetings are facilitated by a coordinator from Maple Ridge Care Centre.

Board meeting open to public

The Oasis board meeting for April is scheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m. The meetings are open to the public. To schedule any agenda items, the board must receive notification in writing on or before the fifth day of the month prior to a meeting date.

Writers to meet in Oasis library

The Memories class is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Friday in the senior center library. Writers are invited to join this lively group to hone their writing skills. No reservation is necessary. Please bring writing material.

Tuesday's lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for April 26 will feature lasagna, vegetables, salad, bread and butter, dessert, and a drink for only $3.75. The cost is $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Ticket purchase deadline is noon Monday.

Think tank

Shirley Bartelmay will be the guest speaker at 9 a.m. Wednesday on the subject of the Postville Courthouse. Discussion will include the history of the courthouse and Abraham Lincoln's role. No reservation necessary.

Spring card party winners

The Oasis had its spring card party on April 9. Winners were as follows:

  • Bridge -- 1. Sis Dehner; 2. Ilah Horton; 3. Meneva Pelc
  • Pinochle -- 1. Mable Hoagland, 6,250; 2. Pauline Boward, 6,090; 3. Esther Will, 6,060
  • Rummy -- 1. Dorothy Oltmanns; 2. Betty Burger; 3. Joann Eckert
  • Door prizes -- Bernie Haley, Bertha Ahrends, Marilyn Knecht, Loreen Durst and Bernie DePuy

In weekly games at the senior center, Mable Hoagland and Henry Warnisher were weekday winners at pinochle. Weekend pinochle winners were Paul Klemm and Jan Van Bibber. The winners for five-in-one were Dorothy Oltmanns and Ella Lee Graney.
