LINCOLN -- Clifton E. "Whitey" Whiteman , 74, died
Sunday, July 31, 2005, at 6:30 a.m. at Maple Ridge Care
Centre.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral
will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial, with military rites, will be in New Union
Cemetery.
Mr. Whiteman retired from Pierce Glass Co. in 1986 as a
packer.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was born July 15, 1931, in Lincoln to Clifton A. and
Mamie P. Huskins Whiteman. He married Lucille Underwood on
May 9, 1953, at Waynesville.
He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; one daughter,
Marsha Dalla Valle (and Bill Greenwood) of Lincoln; two
sons, Rick (and Sue) Whiteman of Lincoln and Randy (and
Diana) Whiteman of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven
Michael Whiteman; one grandson, Randy J. Whiteman; and one
sister, Ethel. He was the last of his immediate family.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society,
American Diabetes Association or Hospice Care of Illinois.

LINCOLN -- George S. Briggs, 84, of Lincoln died Friday,
July 29, 2005, at 10:25 p.m. at his home.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First
Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, with Phillip Blackburn
officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and
from 9:30 a.m. until the service time on Tuesday at the
church.
A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in
Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston.
Mr. Briggs was a high school choral music teacher for 38
years and then retired in 1982. He had taught in
Edwardsville, Peoria and Lombard.
He was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Charleston to George A. and
Edna Smith Briggs. He married Thelma Whiteleather on Nov. 8,
1947, in Effingham.
Survivors include one son, Tim (and Susan) Briggs of
Loveland, Colo.; one daughter, Beth (and Bob) Green of
Lincoln; two grandsons, Joel Green and Ross Green, both of
Lincoln; five sisters, Mary Hutchinson of Port Charlotte,
Fla., Katherine Briggs of Charleston, Betty (and Whiteford)
Colee of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Ruth (and Samuel) Bunch of
Charleston and Margaret Ann (and Loyd) of Green Cove
Springs, Fla.; one brother, Max (and LeAlice) Briggs of
Indianapolis, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a half sister, Dorothy, and a
brother, Alexander.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in
Lincoln and was a certified Master Gardener.
