LINCOLN -- Lois W. Smith, 79, of Lincoln died Monday,
July 25, 2005, at 2:35 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor in Lincoln.
Her funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Peasley
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Pastor Rob Hake officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, rural Beason.
She was born May 11, 1926, in Lincoln to Lewis Orville
and Nellie Lucille Grauer Menzel. She married Billie L.
Smith on April 1, 1945, at the United Methodist Church in
Beason.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 60 years, Billie
L. Smith of Lincoln; two daughters, Jan R. (and Steven)
Montgomery of Lincoln and Mary J. (and Robert) Humbert of
Lincoln; four grandchildren, Justin Montgomery Tomika
Humbert, Adam Humbert and Dusty Montgomery; two
great-grandchildren, Abigail Montgomery and Breydon Humbert;
and one brother, William H. (and Rosie) Menzel of Beason.
She was a member of the Beason United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Elks Crippled Children
Charitable Trust.

Pamela Best, 47, of Lincoln died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at
9:35 p.m. at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Rob
Hake officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at
the funeral home.
Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart.
Mrs. Best was a homemaker.
She was born Aug. 16, 1957, in Lincoln to Luke and Carol
Leftwich Koster. She married William H. Best II on Sept. 5,
1998, at Elkhart.
She is survived by her husband, of Lincoln; her mother,
Carol Fulk of Elkhart; one daughter, Kimberly (and Chris)
White of Lincoln; two grandchildren, Wesley and Jacob White
of Lincoln; and one brother, Mark (and Dawn) Koster of
Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
She was of the Christian faith and was a member of ABATE.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research
Hospital.

DAWSON -- Duane E. Shanle, 77, of Dawson, died Saturday,
July 23, 2005, at 11:07 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in
Springfield.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. His
funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home,
with the Rev. Larry Hanson and Bill Shanle officiating.
Burial, with military rites, will be in Steenbergen
Cemetery, Mount Pulaski.
Mr. Shanle retired from Growmark Inc. in Bloomington.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1945 to 1947.
He was born March 6, 1928, at Mount Pulaski to Robert E. and
Alma V. Erlenbush Shanle. He married Charlene Bruce in St.
Louis, Mo., on July 3, 1959.
He is survived by his wife, of Dawson;
three sons, Greg (and Marla) Shanle of Lincoln, Bruce (and
Barbara) Shanle of Oakford, Brian (and Cindy) Shanle of
Kissimmee, Fla.; two daughters, Rhonda (and Keith) Kurz of
West Ogden, Utah, and Beth (and Mike) Brunson of Dawson; 12
grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Shanle of Lincoln,
Bill (and Nancy) Shanle of Mount Pulaski and Larry Shanle of
Mexico, Mo.; and three sisters, Wanda (and Doug) Peterson of
Stromsburg, Neb., Linda K. (and Richard) Snyder of Lincoln
and Connie (and Jeff) Laatsch of Cornland.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, two brothers and one sister.
He was a member of Grace Community
Fellowship and Mount Pulaski American Legion Post 447.
He graduated from Mount Pulaski High
School in 1945 and attended Lincoln Bible Institute.
