LCHS team tops Normal Community Speech Tournament       Send a link to a friend

[JAN. 10, 2004]  After the Christmas break, the Lincoln Community High School speech team picked up where it left off by winning the nine-team Normal Community Speech Tournament this weekend. Lincoln won the tournament by topping the competition in almost all categories.

Tournament varsity champions for Lincoln were Lindsey Boerma in humorous interpretation and original comedy, Kathryn Muck in dramatic interpretation, Muck and Brady Gerdts in dramatic duet, Gerdts and Eric Knutilla in humorous duet acting, Brian Welter in extemporaneous, Janel Filbeck in special occasion speaking, Kassandra Pepperell in declamation, and Rachel Kasa in prose.

Other LCHS varsity placers were Daniel Ohmart and Brandon Davis, fourth in dramatic duet; Cameron Kurtz, fifth, and Amy Schumacher, sixth, in extemporaneous; Daniel Ohmart and Tony Curcuru, third in humorous duet; Curcuru, fifth, and Patrick Perry, second, in humorous interpretation; Kassandra Pepperell, second, Hannah Snyder, fourth, Miranda Merriman, fifth, and Brandon Rahn, sixth, in impromptu speaking; Tom Swanson, second, Janel Filbeck, third, and Hannah Snyder, sixth, in oratory; Annie Sheley, fifth in declamation; Jaci Gandenberger, second, Rachel Hahn, fourth, and Chris Powley, sixth, in original comedy; Brandon Davis, fourth, and Ruth Ohmart, sixth, in prose reading; Brian Welter, second in radio speaking; Tom Swanson, third, and Genevieve Larson, sixth, in special occasion speaking; and Eric Knutilla, sixth in verse reading.

Novice champions for Lincoln were Jillian Dowell and Rhiannon Hoagland in dramatic duet, Jaci Gandenberger in dramatic interpretation, Genevieve Larson in extemporaneous, Taylor Muck in humorous interpretation, Chris Powley and Annie Sheley in humorous duet, Cameron Kurtz in impromptu, Chrissy Schick in declamation, and Rebecca Kasa in oratory.

Other novice finalists for LCHS were Laura Gillen, third in oratory; Brittany Reeves, third, and Jairris Vermeire, fourth, in verse; Reeves, fifth, and Betsy Ramlow, seventh, in prose reading; Taylor Muck and Ian Arneaud, third in humorous duet; Rebecca Kasa and Betsy Ramlow, fifth in dramatic duet; Ian Arneaud, fourth in radio speaking; and Jillian Dowell, third in special occasion speaking.

The Lincoln team will prepare for the Heyworth Tournament next.
