LINCOLN -- Myrtle M. Follis, 95, of Lincoln died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at 6:15 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Burial will be at a later date in Irish Grove Cemetery, Middletown.

Mrs. Follis worked at Stetson China Factory, was a retired seamstress and retired from dietary work at Lincoln Developmental Center.

She was born May 26, 1910, in Menard County to John Franklin and Mella Sturgis Boyer. She married Robert C. Follis in Lincoln on Feb. 16, 1930. He died Jan. 14, 1986.

She is survived by one son, Duane Follis of Lincoln; one daughter, Roberta (and Dean) Lynn of Mason City; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters and was the last of her immediate family.

She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

MOUNT PULASKI -- Robert E. Steinfort, 87, of Mount Pulaski died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at 10:45 p.m. at his home.

A private family service with military rites will be at a later date. The Rev. Mark Carnahan will officiate. There will be no visitation.

Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart.

Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski is handling arrangements.

Mr. Steinfort was a retired businessman.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was born Feb. 5, 1918, at Mondovi, Wis., to C.E. and Anna Syverson Steinfort. He married Rosemary Graham in Lincoln on Aug. 26, 1943.

He is survived by his wife, of Mount Pulaski; one son, Scott (and Kay) Steinfort of Lincoln; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

One sister, Clarine Jones, preceded him in death.

He was a registered professional engineer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Pulaski Emergency Medical Services.

William McCormick

LINCOLN -- William L. McCormick, 86, of Lincoln, formerly of Emden, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at 5:53 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln. Prior to the visitation, the rosary will be recited at 2:40 p.m.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Lincoln at 10:30 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. R. Anthony Lee officiating.

Burial, with military honors, will be in Bethel Cemetery, rural Emden.

Mr. McCormick had been president of the Farmers State Bank of Emden since 1960.

He served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South and Central Pacific during World War II.

He was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Emden to R. Leslie and Florence Niedergesaess McCormick. He married Frances McCarthy on Jan. 12, 1946.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Timothy T. (and Liana); and two granddaughters, Carina and Adina.

An infant son preceded him in death.

He participated in various civic organizations in Emden and Lincoln, Lincoln Elks Lodge 914 and the American Legion of Emden. He was affiliated with Holy Family Church in Lincoln.

He served as president of the Logan County Bankers Association, on the executive committee of the Illinois Bankers Association and was a member of the American Bankers Association.

He was a member of the board of trustees of Lincoln College for 36 years and served a term as president of the board. In 1999 he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration degree from the college in recognition of his service.

He was educated in rural and Emden schools. He graduated from Lincoln College and the University of Colorado, where he was affiliated with Delta Tau Delta social fraternity.

He enlisted in the Marines in May 1941 and participated in the invasion of Tarawa and the Okinawa Campaign. As a member of the 4th Marine Regiment and Task Force 31, he participated in the initial landing and occupation of the Tokyo Bay area and capture of the flagship Negato, which symbolized the unconditional and complete surrender of the Japanese Navy on Aug. 30, 1945. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of major.

He began his employment with the Farmers State Bank of Emden in 1946. The bank was organized by his grandfather in 1891; was later headed by his father, Leslie; and his son, Timothy, is currently the fourth-generation bank executive.

Winifred Davis

LINCOLN -- Winifred E. "Wini" Davis, 78, of Lincoln died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at 3:25 p.m. at her home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. An Emblem Club service will follow at 7 p.m. Her funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Tom Ewald officiating.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis worked for Illinois Bell 25 years and retired as an assistant staff supervisor.

She was born July 25, 1927, in Springfield to Charles W. and Edith Mae Arnold Franklin. She married Donald E. Davis in Lincoln on Dec. 15, 1968. He died Aug. 26, 1984.

She is survived by one stepson, Michael E. Davis of Peoria; one stepdaughter, Kathy J. Porter of Peoria; two brothers, Robert L. (and Elaine) Franklin of Lincoln and Jim (and Pat) Franklin of Lincoln; one sister, Gwendolyn Crosoli of Joliet; five grandchildren, Lisa (and Nate) Shissler of Peoria, Sara M. (and John David) McKee of Peoria, Jaimie (and Tim) Schaub of Brimfield, Todd Porter of Peoria and Nicole C. Davis of Peoria; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Shissler of Peoria; four nieces, Paulette (and Ronnie) Orth, Deidre (and Matt) Berger, Teresa (and Dan) Dankowski and Susan (and Ed) Walker; and two nephews, Daniel "D.J." (and Amy) Franklin and Sam (and Chasadee) Franklin

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard Franklin.

She was a member of Jefferson Street Christian Church; American Legion Auxiliary Post 263; Lincoln Woman's Club; Lincoln Emblem Club 433, of which she was past president; WIIM State Association of Emblem Clubs, of which she was past state president; and the Supreme Emblem Club of the United States of America.

Memorials may be made to the Lincoln Emblem Club's scholarship fund.

MOUNT PULASKI -- Rachel Elizabeth Gasaway, 100, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at 11:45 p.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. A service will follow at 2 p.m., conducted by Bill Shanle.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Mrs. Gasaway was a sales clerk for Stahl Brothers Furniture for 30 years.

She was born May 15, 1905, in Mount Pulaski to George E. and Ada Mantle Suedmeier. She married Cecil B. Troxell in Argenta, and he preceded her in death. She married Roy D. Gasaway on Dec. 2, 1944, in Walnut Ridge, Ark. He died Oct 12, 1992.

She is survived by a niece, Connie (and Jeff) Parker of Lincoln; a great-niece, Lisa (and Nick) Rohlfs of Emden; a great-great-niece, Sydni Rohlfs of Emden; and two great-great-nephews, Jarrett and Brayden Rohlfs, both of Emden.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Noel, and an infant sister.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Pulaski and the Rebekah Lodge.

Memorials may be made to her church and to Vonderlieth Living Center.

ATLANTA -- Wendell F. Kindred, 91, of Atlanta died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at 3:55 a.m. at his home.

His funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Atlanta United Methodist Church, 200 S.W. Second St., with the Rev. Steve Anderson officiating. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church

Burial was in Atlanta Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Atlanta American Legion Gresham-Crutchley Post 341.

Quiram Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mr. Kindred farmed in the Atlanta area until he retired in 1980.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was born July 25, 1914, in rural McLean to William F. and Anna Electa Wright Kindred. He married Norma F. Turner in Atlanta on Oct. 23, 1949.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Barbara (and Paul) Lawless of Greenwood, Ind.; two sons, Ronald (and Jayne) Kindred of Atlanta and Randall (and Martha) Kindred of Bloomington; one brother, Robert Kindred of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Nathan Lawless, Melissa Lawless, Jay Kindred, Kayla Kindred and Marla Kindred; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Aurora Lawless.

Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, American Soybean Association, Illinois Farm Bureau and the 35th Division Association.

During his military service he was a tech sergeant in radio communications for the 35th Division. He participated in campaigns at Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Following retirement, he took up the game of golf at age 74 and played as much as his health would allow. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, University of Illinois Fighting Illini and Illinois State University Redbirds.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be missed so very much.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Atlanta United Methodist Church or the Atlanta Rescue Squad.

CHESTNUT -- Ruth J. Hughes, 84, of Chestnut died at Decatur Memorial Hospital at 1:40 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2005.      

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Laenna Cemetery, Chestnut. Norman McCormick will be in charge. There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker 

She was born Jan. 25, 1921, in rural Mount Pulaski to Herman and Verna Davison Heft. She married  John D. Hughes in Covington, Ind., on Jan. 2, 1940.

She was the last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, one daughter and one granddaughter.

She was a member of Chestnut Zion Lutheran Church.

LAKE FORK -- Bradford H. Ryan, 49, of Lake Fork died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at 10:47 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. His funeral will be at noon Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mike Stancl officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Mr. Ryan was a foreman at Kelly Construction Co. of Decatur for 18 years.

He was born April 5, 1956, in Lincoln to Robert and Myrna Ferguson Ryan. He married Crystal Loveall in Mount Pulaski on Sept. 13, 1997.

He is survived by his wife; his mother and stepfather, Myrna and George Clark of North Carolina; two brothers, Lee (and Jan) Ryan of Chestnut and Joe (and Debbie) Ryan of Mount Pulaski; one sister, Norma Jean (and Mike) Blunt of Virginia; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Steve and Dorothy Loveall of Mount Pulaski; and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandmother Ethel Ryan.

He attended Mount Pulaski Christian Church

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Karole White

LINCOLN -- Karole Kay Hartupee White, 69, of Lincoln died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at 7:37 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

A time of remembrance for family and friends to celebrate her life will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Elks Lodge 2708, 1621 N. Kickapoo St.

Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln is handling arrangements.

Mrs. White was a homemaker, worked at the Lincoln Rec Center for many years, taught crochet classes for many years and also worked at The Mill, making schnitzel. She was an active volunteer in the community and coordinated many fundraising events for various organizations.

She was born June 1, 1936, in DuQuoin to Kenneth E. and Cleona D. Kunkel Hartupee. She married Raymond E. White June 11, 1954, and he died Dec. 29, 1995.

She is survived by four sons, Daniel (and Phyllis) White of Lincoln, David (and Donna) White of Bloomington, Duane (and Rita) White of Beason and Derek (and Anita) White of Mount Pulaski; two daughters, Debra (and Lee) Lewis and DeLynn G. White, both of Lincoln; one sister, Judith (and Lester) Tinlin of Jasper, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her faithful canine companion for 10 years, Claude Le Chien Monet.

Mrs. White served as den leader for Cub Scouts, had booths at the Railsplitter Festival and was the coordinator for the Logan County Arthritis Foundation for many years. She was a member of The Oasis senior center and Eagles Lodge 2708. She won the PPG Community Service Award in 1984 and 1985.

She graduated from Normal Community High School.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Logan County Arthritis Foundation, the American Diabetes Association or the organization of the donor's choice.

Mary Sprunger

ELKHART -- A memorial service for Mary Anna Sprunger will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Elkhart Christian Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart.

Arrangements are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

Mrs. Sprunger, 83, of Lincoln, formerly of Elkhart, died Oct. 23, 2005, at 12:45 p.m. at her home.

She taught for 20 years in Glenview and St. Charles.

She was born July 20, 1922, Warren County, Iowa, to George Louis and Louisa Fletcher Snuggs. She married the Rev. Virgil L. Sprunger on June 10, 1944, at Berne, Ind.

She is survived by her husband, of Lincoln; one daughter, Linda Jeanne (and Gerald) Tilghman of St. Cloud, Fla.; one brother, Howard Glen Snuggs of Colorado Springs, Colo., three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Elgin and also attended Elkhart Christian Church.
