ELKHART -- Citizens For Education, a grass-roots

number and concern.

Items discussed included legal counsel, acquiring of pertinent
information through the Freedom of Information Act, TIF guidelines,
circulation of information pieces, timeliness of notification, and
declining enrollment and the financial pressures facing the district
in the future. Requests will be made for an itemized, line-by-line
school district budget as well as past executive session minutes
from the school board meetings.
It was decided to prepare an informational brochure to
distribute, informing the public of the organization's existence,
goals and plan of action. Financial contributions to assist the
organization are being sought from district residents and can be
mailed to Citizens For Education, P.O. Box 285, Elkhart, IL 62634.
An account has been set up for these funds at Illini Bank in
Elkhart.

talks were handled in 1995, the concerns that were raised and the
findings of the district's survey. In addition, information was
shared as to the school district's tax contribution per township.
The next meeting of Citizens For Education will be at 7 p.m.
Monday, May 1, at the Elkhart Village Hall. The meetings are every
