Festivities to include seminars, music and more

[FEB. 7, 2006]  SPRINGFIELD -- One-hundred and ninety-seven years ago, Abraham Lincoln was born in a one-room log cabin in Hardin County, Ky. Now, his birth is observed across the country and, for the first time, at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Below is a list of events scheduled for the Lincoln's Birthday weekend celebration.

Saturday, Feb. 11

All day -- Professor Phineas Fairhead, practical phrenologist
Museum, central plaza

9:30 a.m. -- Abraham Lincoln's Springfield -- Historian Dr. Bryon Andreasen addresses subjects such as: Where did Lincoln buy the wedding ring he gave to Mary Todd? What kinds of leisure activities did the Lincolns participate in? He will also discuss Lincoln-themed Springfield walking tours.
Library, first floor classroom

9:30-10 a.m. -- Civil War-era songs by Randy Erwin
Museum, central plaza

10 a.m.-noon -- Book sale and signing, with Betty Kay Carlson, author of "What Did Lincoln Do in 1832?"

10:15 a.m.-noon -- Old-time tunes by the Prairie Chickens

11 a.m. -- "Story Time in the Attic"

11 a.m. -- "Major Findings from the Lincoln Legal Papers" -- A project team member discusses the findings of 15 years of research and investigation, including the final phase of the project: a four-volume selection of cases representative of Abraham Lincoln's legal practice, which will be published by the University of Virginia Press in 2007.

11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. -- Birthday party games and craft activities

1-3 p.m. -- Book sale and signing, with Bill Snack, author of "Rare Personal Accounts of Abraham Lincoln"

1:30 p.m. -- "The Archaeology of New Salem" -- Archaeologist Robert Mazrim discusses the earliest locations of structures that predate those reconstructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, including his efforts to excavate the last unexplored part of the village where Abraham Lincoln owned property.
