[Letter
from Eric Provance] [Letter
from Nancy Voyles]
To the editor:
Mrs. Voyles stated that Mr. Provance from Princeton, Ill., might
not like it if they moved the track to his hometown. Well, it might
get crowded, seeing how Princeton is home to Bureau County Speedway.
Another example of a town that embraces their speedway.
I don't live in Lincoln so I won't argue the property investment
issue, but I will ask, What exactly do you think was going to be
going on at a fairgrounds? Times are tight for a lot of
organizations, and maybe the fair board was feeling the pinch as
well. With the fair and Railsplitter as the only major sources of
revenue, this was an opportunity for them to have a guaranteed
weekly income.
Yes, I know balloon fest was at the fairgrounds, and many blame
them moving to the airport on the speedway, but maybe, just maybe,
it was because they were successful and outgrew the fairgrounds.

Maybe that is the problem: So many people are afraid of something
being successful in Lincoln that they will go out of their way to
see that it fails.
Well, I know a lot of race fans in Lincoln and the surrounding
area, and they all agree they won't let that happen. Lincoln will
have racing, period.
So, people can sit back and find ways to bankrupt the speedway,
or here is something to try: Support it and remember it does benefit
the city businesses. More importantly, it gives people something to
do, and that should be a top priority for a town with so many youth
seeking entertainment.
I do support Lincoln Speedway and the proposed changes, and
please, Mrs. Voyles, don't call me at home like you have done other
supporters. I hate to be rude, but I would have to hang up on you!
