Illinois State Police seek information

[MARCH 10, 2006]  SPRINGFIELD -- On May 23, 2005, the remains of an unidentified human female were discovered near Interstate 55 at the Divernon exit. The remains consisted of two severed human legs. The Illinois State Police and the Sangamon County Sheriff's Department continue their attempts to identify the victim and develop investigative leads.

Initially, the victim was estimated to be between 20 and 40 years of age. The scope of the search has been expanded to include ages 15 through 20. This search includes a nationwide search of existing databases recording people who are missing and unsolved homicides.

Local and national tattoo artist associations have been provided information concerning the partial tattoo in an effort to identify the tattoo artist responsible for the application of the victim's tattoo. No leads have been developed.

Investigators continue to receive periodic inquiries from law enforcement agencies regarding the intelligence bulletin that was disseminated to the media and law enforcement shortly after the remains were found. No pertinent information has been developed from those inquiries.
