[MARCH 28, 2006]  NORMAL -- Both Khalif Ford and Mark Kruse were given a release from their scholarships at Illinois State, ending their respective Redbird basketball careers.

In two seasons at ISU, Ford played in 46 games, with 16 starting assignments, which all came during the 2005-06 season. Last year, Ford averaged 4.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. He ranked second on the team with 69 assists but also committed a team-high 72 turnovers.

Kruse played in 11 games last season, all as a reserve. The 6-foot-7 swingman averaged 2.2 points and 0.7 rebounds per game.

Ford and Kruse's departures leave two scholarships open for next season. Late recruiting for the 2006-07 season continues until mid-April.
