Demolition and construction coincide just miles apart on Lincoln's Route 66 this week.

A 1929 structure on old Route 66 to the south end of town, the Blue Mill -- which became The Mill, "Home of the Schnitzel," in 1945 -- had an added-on portion demolished Monday. Route 66 Heritage Association of Logan County volunteers are restoring the building to its original glory to serve first as a photo op and later as a museum stop. The work is being accomplished through volunteer work and donations. See Save the Mill.

Up the road to the north end of the Lincoln Parkway, the foundation has been laid for the new home of the Lincoln Rural Fire Protection District. A crane was moving structural steel girders around on Monday.
