Angels Lose to Beavers; Preachers Win in Overtime

[February 14, 2008]  The LCC basketball teams played Blackburn College on Wednesday at Laughlin Center.

Angels

After having taken a 37-27 halftime lead, the Angels of Lincoln Christian College were unable to sustain any offensive game during the second half. The Beavers of Blackburn College used pressure defense and forced the Angels into numerous turnovers, including at least seven traveling calls, while LCC scored only 18 points.

The final score of 74-55 drops the Angels to 2-22 for the season.

LCC was led by Jessica Blythe with 18 points and Kim Kersey with 14 points and six rebounds. Also, Megan Buxton was able to control nine rebounds.

Blackburn was led by Sierra Shipley with 21 points. She received help from Krystina C'Nota with 13, Meghan Polston 12 and Meghan Schultze with 10.

The Angels will play on Saturday at Maryville University.

Preachers

The Preachers of Lincoln Christian College outscored the Beavers of Blackburn College 6-2 in overtime, after squandering a 15-point lead at the half, for an 88-84 win. LCC had shot 10-for-18 from the 3-point range for 55.6 percent.

The Preachers had five players in double figures: Matt Searby, 20 points and 10 rebounds; Josiah Brock, 17 points, 10 rebounds; Grant Zimmerman, 14 points; Landon Callahan, 13 points; and Jon Wallace, 11 points.

Blackburn was led by Bryan Waters with 18 points; Grant Lansargis, 16 points, nine rebounds; Ryan Smith, 16 points, 11 rebounds; and Blake Doehring, 13 points.

The win puts the Preachers at 7-16 for the season.

LCC will be in action against Maryville University on Saturday.
