[September 10, 2008]  City of Lincoln Fire Chief Kent Hulett invited everyone to attend a commemorative 9/11 event remembering those who died that day. The Lincoln Military Support Group will recognize current soldiers, along with local police, paramedics and firefighters protecting our community and country today.

The silent and bell ceremony will be at 9:50 a.m. Thursday in front of the city of Lincoln Fire Department station. A prayer time will follow.

Four local firefighters have returned safe and sound from hurricane-devastated Louisiana. Hulett thanked the Logan County fire chiefs, saying that this was a shared effort supported under county and state mutual aid agreements. The chief thanked the men who went and the city council for their support and the opportunity to go down and help our neighbors to the south.

Assistant Chief Tom Martin and Darrin Coffee went from the city of Lincoln. Assistant Chief Andy Dexter and Ryan Sheley went from Lincoln Rural Fire Department.

A search was rapidly organized near the airport in Lincoln on Tuesday. An elderly woman was reported as missing for about an hour when authorities were notified. Concerns were that she would go into the cornfields and get lost, Hulett said. Just to be on the safe side we had nine local, county and state agencies either actively helping us or en route to provide us with support, including a state airplane to search the cornfields, he said.

The woman was found safe in the Mayfair subdivision, not far from where she'd walked away from about an hour after the search began. "So, we had a good outcome there," he said.
