Accidents Pedestrian versus vehicle… maybe
Monday at approximately 1 p.m., 91-year-old Geraldine Heinzel and
her daughter Shirlee Johnson were crossing the parking lot at the
Dollar General Store in the Heritage Plaza Shopping Center, when
Heinzel may have been struck by an unknown motorist.
According to Johnson, as she and her mother were crossing the
lot, a full-size red pickup truck was backing out of a parking space
against the side of the building. The truck continued to back toward
Johnson and her mother. Johnson yelled for the truck to stop and
pulled her mother out of the way.
Johnson said the driver of the vehicle did stop, got out of the
truck and apologized for the incident but then left without giving
any information.
Johnson also said she was not certain the truck actually struck
her mother. Heinzel on the other hand said that it did hit her and
that she was experiencing pain in both legs as a result.
Johnson did offer the police a license number for the vehicle,
but the number she gave was not found when license records were
checked.
