became a cause celebre after the state of Vermont
ordered him removed from the preserve or put down,
is getting a reprieve. He will be allowed to stay on
the preserve under a compromise fashioned by state

Police officers search for clues as
they pack up the frames of stolen paintings outside
the Paris Museum of Modern Art on Thursday, following the report of
five paintings having been stolen. Police and prosecutors say a lone thief has
taken
five paintings worth a total of euro500 million ($613
million), including works by Picasso and Matisse and
