is attempting to cap the well with heavy mud in an
operation called "Top Kill." This live
picture, courtesy of LiveStream, shows the flow from
the broken pipe on the sea floor. Hopes are
that the flow might be stopped within 8 hours of the
start of this operation which was given the go ahead
by the EPA and the Coast Guard this afternoon.

the area and beyond, telling potential visitors why they should visit
our communities this year.

In this May 17 photo, actress
Tina Fey attends NBC Universal's Upfront
presentation in New York. The woman known for her
impression of Sarah Palin on "Saturday Night Live" will
win the nation's top humor prize from the Kennedy Center
for the Performing Arts. Fey joins the ranks of Bill
Cosby, Steve Martin, Lily Tomlin and others who've won
the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Fey will be the
youngest honoree, having just turned 40.
Matt
Clark, athletic director and men's basketball coach at Lincoln
Christian University, is happy to announce that Gabe Cripe, a 6-foot
guard from Tri-Valley in Downs, has signed a letter of intent to
continue his intercollegiate career at LCU in the National
Christian College Athletic Association.
Cripe averaged 16.9 points per game, 72.8 percent free-throw
shooting and had 52 3-point baskets in his final year at Tri-Valley.
His high school coach, Jon Nelson, said: "Lincoln Christian is
getting a great player and even better kid. Gabriel ended a
tremendous three-year career at Tri-Valley, and his future looks
bright."
