Elizabeth Joan Mullen

[October 12, 2011]  McLEAN -- A graveside service for Elizabeth Joan Mullen will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the McLean Cemetery. The Rev. Andy Maxwell will officiate.

Mrs. Mullen, 74, died Sept. 14, 2011, at her home in Palm Coast, Fla.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

Local arrangements are with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.

Born in McLean on Aug. 17, 1937, Elizabeth Joan Necessary was the youngest of three children of Clarence and Alice Billiter Necessary. She married Dale L. Mullen on Feb. 23, 1967.

Joan is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Dale Mullen; her two daughters, Jackie Mullen of Tallahassee, Fla., and Jenny (and Shaun) O'Donnell of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; and her only grandchild, Avery Elizabeth O'Donnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

She spent most of her life in Morton, where she graduated from Morton High School in 1955. Later, she graduated from Brown's Business School, now Midstate College.

She retired in Palm Coast, Fla., where she served as treasurer of the Palm Coast Woman's Club and was a co-leader of multiple bridge clubs.

Her interests included bridge, golf, bowling, fishing and charity work. She also enjoyed spending time at her niece's lake house in the Ozarks and traveling across the U.S. to visit family and friends.

Joan will be remembered for her kind, generous, caring spirit and her love of family.
