White Auction House closes as Colonel Dan White prepares for retirement

[June 10, 2015]  LINCOLN -  An 11-year institution in Lincoln, the Saturday night auction at White’s Auction House has come to an end. Recently Colonel Dan White shared that in preparing to take full retirement in two years, the auction house has closed and the building has been sold.

White said that as he and wife Pam prepare to take full retirement, they will be conducting “on-site” auctions where that the sale will take place at a residence, and “off –site” auctions will be conducted as needed at the Oasis Senior Center.

Talking about the closure of the auction house Dan said that he was going to miss the activity of auction night, and the people that have become regulars to the auction. On the other hand, he said the hours of work that goes into the weekly auctions is something that both he and wife Pam are ready to let go of.
 

Pam noted that the Whites were excited to be able to sell the property to Amy Cross. Cross will reopen the location as a Softball Training Center in the near future. Pam noted, “It’s good that we could do this, so there will not be another empty building in Lincoln.”

A lifelong Logan County Farmer, Dan White got interested in being an auctioneer and attended auctioneer school just 25 years ago. Over time, he and Pam built their business and were doing many auctions for Logan County folks. They opened their first auction house in Beason, but in 2004 moved to Lincoln and opened the house on South Kickapoo Street.

At the height of their auction house business, the Whites were doing 40 auctions a year, taking time off only in the late winter months.
