On Saturday morning the Lincoln/Logan County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors welcomed Furniture Gallery to Lincoln with a ribbon cut. The new business is located on the far west side of Lincoln in the former Sears Store location.

On hand for the ribbon cut (left to right) were Chamber Ambassador Lesleigh Bennett, Furniture Gallery representative Pat Metzger, Carpet Weaver's Regional Manager Steve Shay, Lincoln/Logan County Chamber Director Nicole Cox, Furniture Gallery representative Karen Scott, store manager Doreen Schroeder, Lincoln Mayor Scott Cooper, and Lincoln Alderman Jeff Hoinacki.

The American Legion Post 263, the Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion recently present Brock Byrge and Levi Curry with Vocational Scholarships for $1,000 each. The young men who are good friends are planning to attend Lincoln Land Community College in pursuit of a career in Electrical Lineman Distribution with goals of working for Ameren Illinois.

The scholarship awards are made possible through the Schnitzel fundraisers held at the Legion on the third Wednesday of April, July, and October.

Those who were present at the check presentation included Shirley Winterbauer of the Legion Auxiliary, American Legion Chaplain Robert Sullivan, Commander Roger Bay, Michael Thornton representing the Sons of the American Legion. Also on the scholarship committee is American Legion Financial Officer Michael Tackett, who was unable to attend.

The American Legion Lincoln Post 263 baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday at the Pete Andrews Complex. The team lost to Shelby County 4-0 in the first game but came back to defeat Rantoul Post 287 4-0 in the second game.
