LDN -- Top Stories

At the Monday evening meeting of the Lincoln City Council, Ward 3 Alderman Todd Mourning (foreground) announced that he was leaving the council at the end of the night. Mourning said he had notified the city of his intent to resign nearly a month ago, but had waited until after the election to make a public announcement. Mourning said that as his children grow older, they are becoming more involved in after school activity, the majority of which occur on Monday and Tuesday nights. He said he felt as a father he was missing out of some important parts of his children's lives. Mourning's seat is one of only two that is not up for election in 2017. The mayor will be responsible for appointing a replacement. On Monday night Mayor Marty Neitzel did not comment as to whether she would make the appointment before leaving office, or leave that task to the new incoming mayor, Seth Goodman.
