[March 06, 2018]  The Lincoln Park District has been a mainstay within the community for nearly 57 years.

"Our mission is to enhance the quality and availability of leisure and fitness activities to meet the diverse needs of our community and patrons."

The Lincoln Park District is the largest recreational and fitness facility in Lincoln. Some of the many features include basketball and volleyball courts, an indoor walking track, circuit and strength areas, aerobic and spinning studios, new infrared sauna and huge locker rooms with showers.

Seasonal recreation activities include a driving range, new playground equipment, baseball and softball fields, and an Aquatic Center.

The Aquatic Center consists of a six-lane lap pool, a large curvy yellow slide that dumps you in the plunge pool and an enclosed zero depth wading pool for toddlers.

The Park District offers a large range of affordable membership options. Discounts are offered to seniors age 60 and over, to some businesses, active duty military and veterans. The Park District also honors Silver Sneaker cardholders.

Fitness focused

The Lincoln Park District Fit Zone fitness staff and group fitness classes have grown enormously over the past 10-12 years. Currently, you will find over 30 classes offered each week. All of which are included free with the memberships.

The SPINNING program recently celebrated its 11th year and the Fit For Seniors class will celebrate 10 years this March.

Looking for a challenge?

Fitness Director Jacki Pavlik said, "Our most recent program addition is the R.I.P.P.E.D. group fitness class. We have five certified instructors who work together each week to teach this fun and effective 50-minute class. It has become a huge favorite to many."

The Lincoln Park District fitness staff consists of 13 instructors and trainers who are certified in various areas. Pavlik says, "This allows our fitness programs to continue to grow with the ever-changing fitness industry. Our classes run all year long, six days a week. On occasion, we offer specialized free community classes, special incentives and small group training. "

Pavlik likes the group fitness schedule and programs to stay fresh and trendy, it keeps boredom at bay. She says, “Diversity is key in any fitness program. Performing the same exercises over and over can create boredom, then people tend to lose interest. Repetitiveness may also increase your risk of injury. By adding a variety of cardiovascular and strength training exercises to your regimen, your body will be less likely to adapt.”

Pavlik says that during the summer months, our fitness programs extend outside to our Aquatic Center. Water aerobics and Aqua Zumba begin in June and conclude near the end of August.

Last summer, the Park District added a Mid-Summer Mini Triathlon event in July that was a huge success.

Recreation and activities

The Lincoln Park District also strives to bring fun, interactive, recreational programs to its patrons and community.

Program Coordinator Abigail Neece has assembled a wide variety of activities and events. These programs include special drop-in activities or painting classes for all ages.

Neece also oversees annual holiday events such as the Sweetheart Dance, Easter Egg Hunt, Saturday with Santa, Letters from Santa, and the huge Halloween FunFest.

Last summer, the Park District incorporated a free outdoor family movie that the public loved.

The Park District also organizes sports leagues including youth through Junior Railer Basketball and recreational baseball, softball, and t-ball during summer months.

Summer-time adult recreational leagues keep the community active and involved. These included an adult Women’s Slow Pitch Softball league, Co-Ed Winter Volleyball league and our new 16’ Co-Ed Chicago Style Softball league.

What's new and exciting?

The new 16’ Co-Ed Chicago Style Softball league was a community favorite this past year! Ten teams participated and they are already looking forward to this exciting program again in 2018.

The Park District's recreational programs continue to grow each year based on community needs, trends, and the wellness needs of its patrons.

Whether you are looking for a great, economical workout facility or a place your entire family can enjoy, the Lincoln Park District has so much to offer.
