You can get an all-over workout set at your own
skill level circulating through the Fitness Court stations.
And for many people, you might add a brisk walk to get there as it
is centrally located in the heart of Lincoln, where the old hospital
was located.
The Fitness Court occupies a small portion of the
former ALMH site, located just west of Union Street on Eighth
Street.
The court offers equipment at stations that work all portions of the
body and utilizes body weight to intensify exercise. The equipment
is set on thick rubberized mats for easy on the knees aerobic work.
The court and equipment is also handicapped suited.
Stations have instructions in how to use the equipment or you can
download various workout apps to phones or iPads to follow along. Or
you just might choose earbuds and crank up your favorite tunes to
get you moving.
A basic suggested workout entails circulating through
seven stations on 45 second intervals, doing reps for 30 seconds
with 15 seconds to rest, and change stations.
This wonderful outdoor fitness experience is the
result of several years research and community input on what to do
with the land that Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital gave to the
city. Working with the city of Lincoln for basic cleaning
maintenance to be performed, ALMH Community Health Collaborative
acquired a grant and supplied matching funds for the Fit Mat and
equipment purchase and installation.
