Pink shirt pictures for today include the students of the Illini Central High School Volleyball Team in Mason City and the Lincoln Community High School staff.

As we ponder these two pictures, the first word that comes to mind is, of course, school. School is a place to learn and grow; in other words, receive an education.

When someone is diagnosed with any cancer, education is an essential part of the journey. Ask questions, listen to the answers, take someone with you to help you listen, and write things down if you need to. If you don't understand an answer, keep asking until you get that complete education that is important to your future decision-making process.

On Tuesday morning, members of the Logan County Genealogical and Historical Society in Lincoln were quite thankful that the most significant issue they had after a fire next door on Monday night was smoke damage.

The society center at 114 North Chicago Street houses histories and genealogies from many generations of Lincoln and Logan County families. In addition, there are historical artifacts that help depict the lives of those generations and reflect the county's history with Abraham Lincoln and other people of great importance.

All those items are intact, as is the building. There will need to be remediation done to cure the building and its contents of the awful smoke smell, but for these folks, that is a small price to pay for what could have been lost.
