Celebrate
Better Speech and
Hearing Month
[MAY
1, 2000] One
in 10 American families is directly affected by speech and hearing
disorders. Anyone at any age may acquire these difficulties as a
result of injury or illness. Other causes are congenital in nature
or related to aging. Communication disorders cannot always be
eliminated, but professional assistance and technological
developments can improve the quality of life for individuals
affected. To increase awareness of help available, the American
Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) has designated May as
Better Speech and Hearing Month.

Setting

internet site
For
dummies
[MAY
1, 2000] One
of the most interesting developments in the book publishing industry
has been the rise of the “for Dummies” and “Idiot’s Guide
to” series of books.
These books generally focus on a variety of topics and
explain that topic as simply as possible.
According to IDG Books, their “for Dummies” series has
over 400 titles and over 75 million books in print.
One of the most informative of these titles is the third
edition of “Setting Up An Internet Site For Dummies.”

MOVIE
REVIEWS
“For the Love of
the Game”
Starring:
Kevin Costner, Kelly Preston, John C. Reilly
[MAY 1, 2000] All the other reviews that I read about the third movie in
Costner’s baseball trilogy tell a story of woe, claiming that this
movie is flawed. They
apparently quote Costner, saying that the movie was ruined in the
editing room. They point to the flat, detracting role Kelly Preston played
as Jane Aubrey, Billy Chapel’s girlfriend.
They rant about the distracting subplot, where Jane’s
teen-age daughter (Jena Malone) runs away.
They rail against the length of the film, saying that at
least 20 minutes of the finished film should have ended up on the
editing room floor. But for my contribution to the critical fray, I want to
report that I thought it was a magical movie.
