Delbert Lechleiter

Delbert Charles Lechleiter, 94, of Lincoln died at 4:13 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Maple Ridge Care Center in Lincoln.

His funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln, with Father Thomas Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Lechleiter farmed in Logan County for many years before retiring at age 83.

He was born Nov. 20, 1906, at Burton View to Charles and Margaret Semple Lechleiter. He married Lucille Rohlfs in Lincoln on Feb. 16, 1944. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Edward H. Lechleiter of Hartsburg; two sisters, Pauline Brinkmeyer and Beuhlah Lechleiter, both of Lincoln; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Gilbert Lee and Ronald Delbert Lechleiter; one daughter, Judith Ann Lechleiter; and one sister.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln and the Knights of Columbus.

Memorials may be made to the Holy Family Catholic Church of Lincoln.


Fred Johnson

Fred A. Johnson, 86, of Horse Shoe, N.C., formerly of Middletown and Glen Ellyn, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at Pardee Memorial Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Kerrigan Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Thomas Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Johnson was employed at International Harvester in Glen Ellyn for 30 years. He retired in 1974.

He was born Sept. 4, 1914, in Center Point, Ky., to Samuel and Minnie Johnson.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Eileen Dorgan Johnson of Horse Shoe, N.C.; one brother, Porter Johnson of Springfield; and one sister, Lucille Power of Chicago.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Hendersonville, N.C.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Robert Dowell

Robert Clinton Dowell, 79, of Lincoln died at 10:25 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2001, at his home.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Lincoln Southern Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Shaw officiating.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln and at the church on Wednesday, one hour before the service.

Dowell farmed many years for Leroy Allison farms. He also worked as an electrician for the Lincoln Developmental Center before retiring Dec. 31, 1991.

He was born Dec. 21, 1921, at Oakford to Edgar and Elizabeth Potter Dowell. He married Lydia McMullen on May 2, 1942, in Bowling Green, Mo. They had been married 50 years when she died Aug. 27, 1992. He married Charlene Bradley Creager in Lincoln on April 23, 1994. She survives.

Also surviving are four children, Thomas Dowell and wife Sandy of Delavan, Marjorie Wibben and husband Jim of Atlanta, Betty Spires and husband Larry of Atwood and Daniel Dowell and wife Ellen of Delavan; four stepchildren, Roger Creager and wife Connie of Navarre, Fla., Debbie Creager of Lincoln, Myrna Carroll and husband Pat of Lincoln and Rhoda Baldock and husband David of Navarre, Fla.; eight grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Erma Dowell, and a stepson, Jim Creager Jr.

He was a member of Lincoln Southern Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and trustee for many years. He is described as a person who "really loved the Lord and was very active in his church." He was also active in the IBEW Union Local 193.

Memorials may be made to his church or to hospice care.
