L. May, 88, of Lincoln died at 3:10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at
St. Clara’s Manor.
Her
funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Tom Gerdts officiating.
Burial
will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Mrs.
May was a retired practical nurse who had worked at Abraham Lincoln
Memorial Hospital, St. John’s Hospital and St. Clara’s Hospital.
She also did private duty nursing in homes of many area residents.
She
was born Dec. 28, 1912, in Dalton City to Arthur and Maude Nelhiser
Wollums. She married Carl May on Nov. 12, 1930, in Sullivan. He died
Feb. 27, 1976.
Surviving
are two sons, Donald "Pete" (and wife Judy) May of Lincoln
and Gary (and Vicki) May of Hartsburg; one daughter, Connie (and
Robert) Madigan of Lincoln; six grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, in
Decatur, Darrel "Duke" (and Betty) Wollums and Eldon (and
Pauline) Wollums; and two sisters, in Maroa, Millie Wollums and Faye
(and Stanton) Malone.
She
was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
She
was a member of Decatur Christian Church.

Leona
Cress, 98, of Lincoln died at 10:18 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001,
at St. Clara’s Manor.
Her
funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Zion
Lutheran Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Mark Carnahan and the Rev.
William Adam officiating.
Burial
will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be one hour before the service at the church.
Mrs.
Cress was a homemaker.
She
was born Oct. 29, 1903, in Lincoln to Herman H. and Marie Hahn
Dierker. She married George Cress on Jan. 23, 1930, in Lincoln. He
survives.
Also
surviving are one sister, Nelva Schroeder of Lincoln, and several
nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by seven brothers and five sisters.
Mrs.
Cress was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Lincoln, the church’s
Ladies Aid Society and Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Blocker, 62, of Lincoln died at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at
Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
A
graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Zion
Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be at the Eagles Lodge, 1621 N. Kickapoo in Lincoln, following
the service.
Blocker
was retired.
He
was born July 1, 1939, in St. Louis, Mo., to John and Genevieve
Myers Blocker. He married Jean Lowman on Nov. 6, 1956, in Lincoln.
She survives.
Also
surviving are his father, of Lincoln; one daughter, Kathy (and
husband Troy) Craine of Lincoln; one grandchild, William James
Craine; his father-in-law, Virgil Lowman of Lincoln; six brothers,
John (and Bonnie) Blocker, Jerry (and Dorothy) Blocker, David (and
Pat) Blocker and Mike (and Marsha) Blocker, all of Elgin, Jack (and
Rita) Blocker of Vincennes, Ind., and Larry (and Betty) Blocker of
Mazolla, Mont.; and one sister, Dorothy (and Dave) Starin of Elgin.
He
was preceded in death by his mother.
He
was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 2708 and Moose
Lodge.

B. Durst, 78, of Indian Lake Estates, Fla., formerly of Homer and
Elkhart, died at 9:35 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Lakeland
Regional Medical Center in Florida.
Her
funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Immanuel
Lutheran Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Dan Wissmann officiating.
Burial
will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral
Home in Lincoln and one hour before the service at the church on
Saturday.
Mrs.
Durst, a registered nurse, worked at St. John’s Hospital in
Springfield and Carle Hospital in Urbana.
She
served in the U.S. Army Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II.
She
was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Elkhart to Everett and Louise Gluick
Bock. She married Lester L. "Coogie" Durst on Sept. 19,
1948, in Lincoln.
Surviving
Mrs. Durst are her husband, of Indian Lake Estates, Fla.; one
daughter, Debra D. (and husband Thomas F.) Mullins III of Milford,
Del; one grandchild; and two stepgrandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by two brothers.
She
was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lake Wells, Fla., and a
past member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
She
was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi, a past member of the American
Legion in Homer and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary
in Homer.

Russell
Leonard, 89, of Lincoln died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001,
at the Christian Village in Lincoln.
His
funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at First United Methodist
Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Larry Maffett and the Rev. James
McClary officiating.
Burial
will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Lincoln.
Leonard
farmed for 50 years in the Lincoln and Hartsburg area.
He
was born April 15, 1912, in Atlanta to Bert R. and Ethel Green
Leonard. He married Doris C. Poppenga on June 2, 1940, in Lincoln.
She died Aug. 2, 1988.
Surviving
are three daughters, Judith (and husband Larry) Bellamy of Normal,
Carolyn (and Ron) Fehring of Springfield and Virginia (and Robert)
Greer of Springfield; seven grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; one sister, LaVara Moore of Lincoln; and two
brothers, Herbert (and Melba) Leonard of Springfield, Mo., and
Wilbur (and Evelyn) Leonard of Ludington, Mich.
He
was also preceded in death by one brother, Harold.
A
devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Lincoln, he was a
volunteer for the food pantry and a member of the Methodist Men’s
Club, Men’s Prayer Fellowship and the Home Builders Class.

Bartman, 86, of Lincoln died at 4:13 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001,
at the Christian Village in Lincoln.
His

Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Robert Henderson officiating.

Bartman
was a retired farmer and worked for Cutler-Hammer for 17 years.
He
was born July 27, 1915, at New Holland to Redmer and Hattie Bartman.
He married Katherine "Dee Dee" Carr on Jan. 11, 1936, in
New Holland. She died May 2, 2000.
Surviving
are two granddaughters, DeeDee Lewis of Blomington and Bethany Lewis
of Colfax, and one great-grandchild.
He
was also preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl Ann Lewis.
He
was a member of First Baptist Church of Lincoln.

Florence
M. Bauer, 82, of Lincoln died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001,
at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Her

Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Gary Zustiak officiating.

Mrs.
Bauer worked in the Logan County treasurer’s office for 25 years
before her retirement.
She
was born Feb. 21, 1919, in Lincoln to George and Roxie Moore Awe.
She married Walter Bauer. He died in 1975.
Surviving
are one daughter, Sherrian (and husband Roy) Ekstrom of Lincoln, and
several nieces and nephews.
She
was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
She
was a member of Broadwell Christian Church, American Business Women’s
Association and Women’s Eagles Lodge.

may be made to Ronald McDonald House of Springfield or St. Jude’s
Children’s Hospital.
