Charles
A. Groves, 92, of Lincoln died at 3:33 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2002,
at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Cremation
rites were accorded.
Graveside
services for family and friends will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 19,
at Atlanta Cemetery. Pastor Lee Morrisett will officiate.
Groves
was a railroad foreman for 49 years. He retired in 1976.
He
was born March 13, 1910, in Pekin to Thomas and Dolly Groves. He was
married on Oct. 28, 1932, in Atlanta. His wife, Ruby A. Groves, died
Jan. 2, 1993.
Surviving
are one son, Perry E. Groves (and Sophia) of Lincoln; seven
grandchildren, Marianne Pekins (and Tom) of Dawson, Sophia
Talkington (and Terry), Perry Groves Jr. (and Carie) and Kayla
Groves, all of Lincoln, and Merita, Dale and Gayle Groves, addresses
unknown; two great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
He
was also preceded in death by one son, Jack; three brothers, Lester,
William and Irving Groves; and one sister, Sadie Martin.
He
attended the Christian Church in Lincoln.
Memorials

Mitchell
Edith
E. Mitchell, 96, of Emden died at 8:40 a.m. Saturday, April 13,
2002, at Hopedale Medical Center.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at Holland and Barry
Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Her
funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Holland and Barry with
Chad Ragsdale officiating.
Burial
will be in Bethel Cemetery, Emden.
Mrs.
Mitchell was a nurse at Peoria Methodist Hospital in the 1940s and
at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in the 1950s.
She
was born Nov. 20, 1905, in Emden to Bert and Zora Gemberling
Smallwood. She married John Benedict Mitchell in Chicago on Jan. 19,
1931. He died in November 1997.
Surviving
are two sons, Lloyd Mitchell of Emden and Ken Mitchell (and Natalie)
of Middletown, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
She
was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
She
was a member of Bethel Church.
Memorials
may be made to the Old Bethel Church Association.

Marlett
Billie
D. Marlett, 68, of Heyworth, formerly of Minier, died at 12:05 p.m.
Saturday, April 13, 2002, at his home.
Visitation
will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Minier Christian Church.
His
funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Norvin D. Condy,
Kurt Flora and Melvin Gresham will officiate.
Burial,
with military rites, will be in Mountjoy Cemetery, rural Atlanta.
Quiram
Funeral Home in Atlanta is handling arrangements.
Marlett
farmed in the Heyworth area for 25 years and worked for Hicksgas of
Bloomington from 1989 to 2001.
He
served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1957.
He
was born March 17, 1934, in Reyno, Ark., to Lucian and Ruby Murdock
Marlett. He married Leta Gresham on Nov. 12, 1957, at Armington. She
survives.
Also
surviving are his father, of Hoopeston; two daughters, Jody Adair of
Heyworth and Kim (and Rick) Bell of Heyworth; three sons, Dee (and
Susan) Marlett of Heyworth, Bryan (and Tina) Marlett of Heyworth and
Shane Marlett of Normal; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (and
Curt) Phillips of Niceville, Fla., and LaVonda (and Don) Sherrill of
Hoopeston; many nieces and nephews; and special friends Joe and
Diane Tackett of Armington.
He
was preceded in death by his mother and his brother, Jake Marlett.
He
was a member of the Minier Christian Church and a former member and
board member of the Heyworth Christian Church.
He
was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and dearly loved by
his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew
him.
