A large complex of thunderstorms over
southern Iowa and the northern half of Illinois, along and north of
I-72, will continue to drift east today. Tropical moisture feeding
into these thunderstorms ahead of a cold front sinking south into
central Illinois today will produce torrential rainfall. Rainfall
amounts near the stronger storms may total over 4 inches.
The soil is saturated from recent heavy
rains over parts of Illinois north of I-70, with flooding already
occurring in some locations. Any additional heavy rainfall will
quickly become runoff, which may cause rapid rises in creeks and
flood roads.
A flood
watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy rain that may
lead to flooding of low-lying areas and along rivers and streams. If
you are in the watch area, remain informed and be ready to take
action if flooding is observed or a warning is issued. |
