Dorothy
A. Marrs, 81, of Lincoln died at 7:10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002,
at Christian Village Nursing Home, Lincoln.
Her
funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Holy Family
Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Thomas Taylor officiating.
Burial
will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Kerrigan Funeral Home in Lincoln.
The rosary and wake service will be recited Sunday at 5 p.m.
Ms.
Marrs owned and operated The Book Nook in Lincoln until her
retirement.
She
was born May 15, 1920, in Lincoln to Thomas J. and Lily Armstrong
Watson. She married Claude Marrs in Lincoln on July 4, 1943. He
preceded her in death Oct. 25, 1987.
Surviving
are one son, Larry T. Marrs of Atlanta; two daughters, Pam Madigan
of Peoria and Nancy Dugan of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and one brother.
She
was a member of Holy Family Church and the Rebecca Lodge, both in
Lincoln.
She
was also a former member of the American Business Women’s
Association.

Hallie
Marie Mason, 99, of Mount Pulaski died at 10:05 a.m. Friday, Jan.
11, 2002, at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.
Her
funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with the Bill Shanle officiating.
Burial
will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.
Visitation
will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Ms.
Mason was a homemaker.
She
was born May 7, 1902, in Lake Fork to John Wesley (Conar) and
Adeline Goff Huffman. She married Harry Mason on Aug. 1, 1921. He
preceded her in death in 1956.
Surviving
are one son, Billy Joe (and wife Jean) Mason of Lake Fork; three
daughters, Lois (and husband Bill) Duhs of Mount Pulaski, Opal (and
husband Cecil) McCain of Mount Pulaski and Jenny (and husband Jerry)
Sams of Decatur; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
She
was additionally preceded in death by one son, one brother, five
sisters and one grandson.
She
was of the Christian Faith.
Memorials
may be made to Buffalo Christian Church or to a charity of the
donor’s choice.

Michael
E. “Mike” Cheek, 76, of Atlanta died at 2:12 p.m. Wednesday,
Jan. 9, 2002, at his residence at Goofy Ridge, rural Topeka.
His
funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Quiram
Funeral Home in Atlanta.
Burial
will be in Atlanta Cemetery.
Visitation
will be one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
Cheek
was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company in East Peoria. He
retired after thirty-two years in 1980.
He
was born May 1, 1925, in Atlanta to Walter and Mary Buss Cheek. He
married Marie Maloney Kindred in Louisville, Ky., on Aug. 4, 1966.
She survives.
Also
surviving are two sons, Mark (and wife Yvonne) Cheek of Lincoln and
Michael (and wife Liz) Cheek of Topeka; one daughter, Chris (and
husband John) Agee of New Holland; one stepdaughter, Sandra (and
husband Jim) Litwiller of Morton; one stepson, David (and wife
Cheryl) Kindred of Locust Grove, Va.; ten grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sharon Cheek of Phoenix, Ariz.,
and Weldon Cheek of Atlanta; and one sister, Shirley Thoman of
Shirley.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and
one grandson.
He
was a member of the Lincoln Eagle Lodge #2708 for forty-one years.
He was also a member of the United Auto Workers #974, Goofy Ridge
Sportsmen Club and Goofy Ridge Liars Club.
In
lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF Hospice in Peoria.

Long
Richard
L. Long, 60, of Mason City died at 12:20 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2002,
at his residence.
His
funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Hurley
Funeral Home in Mason City, with the Rev. Curt McCallister
officiating.
Burial
will be in Big Grove Cemetery in rural Mason City.
Visitation
will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Long
was a truck driver.
He
was a U.S. Navy veteran and was enlisted from 1959 to 1961.
He
was born Jan. 1, 1942, in Decatur to Lawrence and Mabel L. Blevins
Long. He married Elaine Romer in Groveland on Oct. 16, 1993. She
survives.
Also
surviving are one son, James L. (and wife Wendy) Long of Lebanon,
Ohio; three stepsons, Mark Romer of Mundelein, Matt Romer of Myrtle
Beach, S.C., and Michael Romer of Springfield; two daughters, Lisa
Croteau and Mandy Croteau, both of Mason City; and five
grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his parents.
He
was a member of American Legion of Mason City and the International
Brotherhood of Teamsters, serving 12 years as Steward of Local No.
627.
He
was an avid bowler for many years.
