Dr. James Ray
Johnson, 61, of Lincoln, formerly of Springfield, died at 10:28 a.m.
Friday, July 5, 2002, at his home.
Visitation will be
from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home, 127 S. Logan St. in Lincoln.
The service, also at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, will be at 10 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be in
Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.
Johnson was chief
compliance officer for the Illinois State Board of Education before
he retired.
He was born July 22,
1940, in Evansville, Ind., to Paul B. and Virginia Krutsinger
Johnson.
One aunt, Anne Goin
of Springfield, and several cousins survive.
He was preceded in
death by his parents and one sister.
He graduated from
Lincoln Community High School and the University of Arkansas and
received his doctorate from the University of Illinois.
He was a member of
the Good Guy Street Rod Club and the Railsplitter Car Club.

Efrosini Demertzis
Efrosini Demertzis,
83, a resident of the Christian Village Nursing Home, died at 4:40
p.m. Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at
noon Monday, July 8, at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln,
with Father Anthony Tzortzis officiating. Visitation will be from 10
a.m. until noon Monday.
Burial will be in New
Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Mrs. Demertzis was a
homemaker for her family.
She was born May 20,
1919, in Salonika, Greece, to Stergios and Anastasia Tatsis. She
married Apostolos Demertzis in 1943 in Salonika, Greece. He died in
1961.
Surviving are one
son, Ted (and Stacy) Demertzis of Greece; one daughter, Stacie (and
John) Vanos of Lincoln; daughter-in-law Cathy Demertzis of Downers
Grove; and eight grandchildren.
She was also preceded
in death by one son, James Demertzis; four sisters, Chrysoula Tatsis,
Evridiki Tatsis, Alexandra Tatsis and her twin, Efrosini Tatsis; and
one brother, Theophilos Tatsis.
She was a member of
St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago.

Floyd Jones
Floyd Dwain Jones,
69, of Lincoln died at 8:39 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2002, at St.
Clara’s Manor.
His funeral will be
at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Park Meadows Baptist Church,
Lincoln, with the Rev. S.M. Davis and the Rev. Tom Bryant
officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the
service.
Burial, with military
rites, will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Jones was a machinist
at Fiatt Allis. Also, he was a tax examiner for the state of
Illinois for 10 years.
He was a U.S. Navy
veteran.
He was born Oct. 22,
1932, in Logan County to Floyd E. and Amy A. Dye Jones. He married
Marilyn Finley on May 10, 1954, in Corinth, Miss.
Surviving are his
wife, of Lincoln; three daughters, Marilyn J. (and David) Bertram,
Vickie R. (and Tim) Loafman of Mount Pulaski and Cynthia S. Foley of
Lincoln; 10 grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren; one
great-grandchild and three step-great-grandchildren; and one sister,
Oneta Emmons of Middletown.
He was preceded in
death by one sister, Lois Emmons.
He was an active
member of Park Meadows Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Dorothy Menzel
Dorothy E. Menzel,
81, of Lincoln died at 11:58 p.m. Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Abraham
Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be
from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 8, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral
Home in Lincoln.
Her funeral will be
at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Lincoln.
Burial will be in New
Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Mrs. Menzel was a
housewife.
She was born June 25,
1921, in Rector, Ark., to Charles D. and Pearl Carter Earle. She
married Harry W. Menzel in Malden, Mo., in 1943. He died May 14,
2002.
Surviving are four
sons, Harry Earle (and Jean) Menzel of Kankakee, David (and Pat)
Menzel of Springfield, Michael (and Marsha) Menzel of Williamsville
and Scott (and Wendy) Menzel of Louisville, Ky.; eight
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was a member of
First United Methodist Church of Lincoln and the Ruth Circle of the
church.
She was a former
election judge.
