Smith
Ida Smith, 94, of Elkhart died at 11:22
a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Hillsboro Hospital.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m.
Friday at O’Bryan Cemetery, Tuscola. Bill Shanle will
officiate.
There is no visitation.
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski is in charge
of arrangements.
Mrs. Smith was a registered nurse at
St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
She was born Aug. 10, 1908, in Logan
County to Benjamin F. and Lillie Mae Carter Smith. She married Roger
Sheridan Smith in Springfield on Oct. 3, 1925.
Surviving Mrs. Smith are four
daughters, Mary Sandra Smith of Elkhart, Sheary (and William)
McClure of Springfield, Solange (and Dale) Davis of Illiopolis and
Sandy Gibbs of Elkhart; one son, Sheridan R. Smith of Elkhart; three
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one
brother and three sisters.
She was a member of Elkhart United
Methodist Church.

John McCormick
John B. McCormick, 72, of Emden died at
5:23 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial
Hospital.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
His
funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion United Methodist
Church in Emden, with the Rev. Doug Rettig officiating.
Burial,
with military rites, will be in Bethel Cemetery.
Mr.
McCormick farmed in Orvil Township for several years and was
employed by Eaton Corporation for 23 years. He retired from Eaton in
1992.
He
served with the U.S. Marines during the Korean War.
He was
born July 20, 1930, in Emden to Harry B. and Hazel Montgomery
McCormick. He married Ruth Ann Nieukirk in Tremont on Sept. 19,
1954.
Surviving are his wife, of Emden; one daughter, Cleola (and Mike)
Fletcher of Emden; one son, Ralph (and Brenda) McCormick of Emden;
two grandsons, Justin McCormick of Emden and Blaen Fletcher of Emden;
three granddaughters, Shauna and Tasha Fletcher, both of Emden, and
Ashliegh McCormnick of Bloomington.
He was
preceded in death by one brother and three grandchildren.
He was a
member of Zion United Methodist Church of Emden. He was past
commander, sergeant at arms and membership chairman for Emden
American Legion Post 506 and past president of Illinois Federation
of Square and Round Dance Clubs.
His
hobbies included gardening, golf and square dancing.
He was a
graduate of Hartsburg-Emden High School.

Dorothy Cash
Dorothy Zell Cash, 79, of Lincoln died
at 11:21 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in
Springfield.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service was at 2 p.m.
Tuesday at Jefferson Street Christian Church in Lincoln, with Craig
Smith officiating. Another memorial service will be at the Lynkirk
Church of Christ in Austintown, Ohio, on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Interment will be at Kerr Cemetery in
Mineral Ridge, Ohio.
Mrs. Cash was primarily a mother and
homemaker. She also soldered wiring at the Packard Electric defense
plant in Warren, Ohio, during World War II, and she worked as a
missionary intern at a Native American children’s orphanage in
Ketchikan, Alaska.
She was born April 15, 1923, in Warren,
Ohio, to Paul and Ida Nunamaker Zell.
Surviving Mrs. Cash are three sons,
Thomas (and Coleeta) Cash of Martinsville, Ind., Lee Cash of
Austintown, Ohio, and Joel (and Mary) Cash of Worthington, Ohio; one
daughter, Paula (and Clare) Gramley of Lincoln; five grandchildren,
Amanda Cash of Seymour, Ind., Joshua Cash of Brownston, Ind.,
Rebecca Gramley of Lincoln, Thomas Gramley of Lincoln and Stephen
Cash of Worthington, Ohio; one great-grandson, Skylar Cash of
Brownstown, Ind.; and one sister, Marion Jocola of Howland, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by two sons,
Timothy Cash and Stephen Cash.
She was a member of Lynkirk Church of
Christ in Austintown, Ohio, and of Jefferson Street Christian Church
in Lincoln, where she was active with the 50-plus group. She was a
founder of the women’s retreat at Elkhorn Valley Christian Service
Camp in Bergholz, Ohio. She also edited the Village Voices
newsletter.
Memorials

Bible College and Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Clara Kurtz
Clara E. Kurtz, 96, died at 7:15 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Vonderlieth Living Center, Mount
Pulaski.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m.
Monday at Zion Cemetery, Lincoln. Tom Gerdts will officiate.
There is no visitation. Arrangements
are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Lincoln.
Mrs. Kurtz was a homemaker.
She was born June 3, 1906, in DeWitt
County to Thomas T. and Clara Rode Furman. She married Merle W.
"Bud" Kurtz on Dec. 19, 1925, in Clinton. He died April 18, 1994.
Surviving are one son, William F. (and
Alice) Kurtz of Lincoln; two daughters, Clara "Kay" (and Norman
"Andy") Anderson of Lake Havasu, Ariz., and Elnore Kurtz of Lake
Havasu, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Kurtz was the last of her
immediate family. She was preceded in death by three brothers and
four sisters.
She was a member of Lincoln Christian
Church.

Amanda Bree
Amanda Bree, 85, formerly of Lincoln,
died at 7:27 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at Hacienda de Monterey in
Palm Desert, Calif.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday

Mrs. Bree was formerly the owner of the
Arcade Coffee Shop in Lincoln.
She was born Jan. 7, 1917, in Elkhart
to John and Stella Coffey Shockey. She married Arthur William Bree
on Oct. 5, 1945, in Lincoln. He died Aug. 7, 1990.
Survivors are three daughters, Donna
(and Richard) Jacobs of Lincoln, Judy Morley (and Bob Williams) of
Chicago, and Jan (and David) Kress of Phoenix, Ariz.; one
granddaughter, Shannon Jacobs of Lincoln; and one brother, Col.
Cyrus Reyon Shockey of Iowa City, Iowa.
She was also preceded in death by one
brother and two sisters.
She was a member of First United
Methodist Church of Lincoln, VFW Auxiliary, American Contract Bridge
League and Indian Wells Country Club of Indian Wells, Calif.
