Duane Lowe

Duane Clyde Lowe, 71, of Mason City died at 7:43 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hurley Funeral Home, 603 E. Chestnut in Mason City.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Mason City, with the Rev. Dustin Fulton and the Rev. William Boyce officiating.

Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Jackson Keen Post 496.

Lowe was a self-employed general contractor specializing in carpentry.

He was stationed with the U.S. Army in France during the Korean War.

He was born July 29, 1931, in Mason City to Delta Clyde and Trina Anne Peters Lowe. He married Doris A. Furrer on Aug. 1, 1954, at the First Christian Church of Mason City. She died Aug. 21, 2001.

Surviving are four sons, Billy E. Lowe of Forest City, Robert D. Lowe of Springfield, Bruce A. (and Janis) Lowe of Mason City and Bradley R. (and Melissa) Lowe of Murrayville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Carol Louis Lowe of Muncie, Ind.; and one sister, Mary Jane Carlyle of Talbotton, Ga.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Mason City, American Legion Jackson Keen Post 496, Masonic Lodge 403 and a 50-year member of the Mason City Odd Fellows. He was involved with the Boy Scouts for many years, filling a variety of roles.

Memorials may be made to Lincoln Christian College.


Darwin Shull Sr.

Darwin R. Shull Sr., 68, of Chestnut died at 9:10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at St. John's North, Springfield.

His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Richard Stamm officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Laenna Cemetery in Chestnut.

Shull worked in experimental water treatment systems.

He was born May 2, 1934, in Logan County to Dorrell T. and Kathryn Sheridan Shull.

Survivors are six children:  three daughters, Christine Peasley and Janet Boyer, both of Lincoln, and Kathy (and Kenny) Aderman of Atlanta, and three sons, Dennis (and Mamie) Shull and Colin (and Tammy) Shull, both of Lincoln, and Darwin Shull Jr. of Texas.  He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Chestnut.

Carol ‘Bonny’ Beck

Carol "Bonny" Beck, 63, of rural Atlanta, died at 7:07 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at her home.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Quiram Funeral Home in Atlanta, followed by a funeral service at 7:30. Pastor James Gilroy will officiate.

In Forsyth, Mo., visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and a service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, both at Whelchel Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Snapps Memorial Garden, Forsyth, Mo.

Mrs. Beck was born Dec. 8, 1938, in Peoria to Sherman and Iola Moreland Hendricks. She married Harley Beck on Sept. 16, 1977, at Shirley. He survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Alan (and Lynn) Paul of Bellevue, Neb., Greg (and Lisa) Paul of Bloomington; one daughter, Lisa (and Ed) Birk of Beason; six stepchildren, Harley Dean (and Stephanie) Beck of Mount Pulaski, Ronnie (and Cathy) Beck of Lincoln, Becky (and Raymie) Burger of Lincoln, Karen (and Don) Beck of Lawndale, Gladys (and Chuck) Williams of Atlanta and Steve Beck of Atlanta; 28 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, RoseAnn (and Oren) Schaab of Normal; and one brother, Jack (and Linda) Hendricks of Shirley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two stepsons, one grandson and two granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to the Beck family.


Mary Febus

Mary O. Febus, 103, of Mount Pulaski died at 5:44 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at Vonderlieth Living Center.

Her graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Carlyle Cemetary in Lake Fork, with Bill Shanle officiating. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

Burial will be in Carlyle Cemetery in Lake Fork.

Mrs. Febus was born July 4, 1899, in Lake Fork to William H. and Mary Ann Keehler Bryson.

Survivors are two children and three grandchildren:  one son, Wayne (and Jeanne) Febus of Normal, one daughter, Waneta (and Tom) Stephens of Mount Pulaski, one grandson, Harry W. (and Valera) Milner of Sherman, and two granddaughters, Cynthia Hill of Elgin and Lisa (and Bob) Brown of Mount Pulaski.  She is also survived by five great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, four sisters and two brothers.

She was a member of Lake Fork Christian Church, Mount Pulaski Womans Club and Mount Pulaski Garden Club and was a whistler for the Mount Pulaski Kitchen Band for a number of years.

Memorials may be made to the Lake Fork Christian Church.
